The Dallaglio Flintoff Cycle Slam 2012 has kicked off its fundraising launch with a reception at Under the Bridge, the music venue at Chelsea Football Club.
Lawrence Dallaglio and Freddie Flintoff were joined by many of the hundreds of riders who will take part in the challenging 2,867km bike ride from Greece to London as well as teams from the event sponsors Virgin Media, Halfords, Causeway, PizzaExpress, Nintendo, Citi and Discovery.
This year, the event has set itself a tough fundraising goal – to raise £2,012,000. The donations will help to support causes through the Dallaglio Foundation, for prostate cancer research, the AF Foundation, for the refurbishment of physiotherapy units in major hospitals, and Virgin Unite.
Rachel Roxburgh, CEO of the Dallaglio Foundation, said, “ We launched in September and we had 400 people here that night and we were explaining how difficult it was, because it’s important people recognize the challenge ahead of them, and we were full within 48 hours. The support for it is amazing.”
To take part, each rider has to raise a minimum of £3,000 and the sponsors are putting on fundraising events leading up to the challenge which starts on April 23rd 2012, including a 25p donation from PizzaExpress for each ‘American Hot’ pizza sold.
With the current total at nearly £160,000, there’s still a long way to go and we need your support to meet our target. Please support Lawrence and Freddie, or make a donation to one of our other riders, and help raise money for 3 amazing causes. To donate now, click here.
